Swedish Born Designer Reinventing Knitwear

Whether dressing for a breezy summer night or a cool winter morning, Suss Cousins’ knitwear collection, SUSS, provides an elegant solution to staying warm. Mood of Living met up with Cousins in her Los Angeles studio where her ideas are “cast on” into her hand-knitted garments.

As a native Swede, Cousins was first exposed to the craft of knitting through her mother and grandmother. During the long Nordic winters, the three generations of women would sit fireside and perfect their purling. From the kaleidoscope of colors in the Swedish meadows to the buttons on her grandfather’s sweaters, Cousins took remnants of her childhood nostalgia and translated the memories into her own knitwear line.

Her woven-wear is constructed from all natural fibers such as alpaca, cashmere and pima cotton. Drawing inspiration from her native homeland by using a palette of earth tones, Cousins reinvents the classic menswear sweater with a romantic, modern twist.

A true rocker at heart, Cousins’ personal style juxtaposes the soft and romantic pieces that she designs.

Clad in all black and riding a Harley-Davidson, this mother of two cites Vivienne Westwood as her own favorite designer. While Cousins’ edgy aesthetic is unique to herself, SUSS’ basic cotton tees and cozy knits are essentials that add style, comfort, and femininity throughout the changing seasons.
