UNITED EGG PRODUCERS

United Egg Producers Logo

is an organization that provides certifications for all farms that have raised their hens under sustainable and science-based animal welfare guidelines. Established in 1999, UEP remains one of the strongest advocates for animal welfare and cruelty-free management practices.

To become certified with UEP, a farm has to demonstrate transparency and adhere to annual compliance audits conducted by third-party inspectors. A few basic conditions required by the UEP include adequate living spaces, nutritious feeds, clean water, daily monitoring of the flock, cruelty-free practices, cage-free housing, rigorous biosecurity measures and an employee code of conduct that guarantees zero tolerance of animal abuse. All UEP Certified egg producers must undergo annual audits, and at least 25% of egg producers are randomly selected for auditing. Over 90% of egg producers in the US are voluntarily UEP certified. On their website, UEP also educates consumers on the meaning of store labels on egg cartons, encouraging more conscious consumerism.
