This past weekend, Mood of Living brought out our inner child at the Lions, Tigers, and Brews event in the Central Park Zoo. We spent the evening exploring the penguin house, tropics house, and sea lion show while sampling over sixty different types of craft beer from New York-based breweries. Beyond beer and wildlife, Lions, Tigers and Brews’ fun atmosphere also featured free giveaways from both Monster and Kettle Chips, numerous food vendors, and a great DJ.
While touring the zoo, we brushed up not only on our penguin facts, but also on our beer expertise. Beer has four main ingredients: water, barley, hops, and yeast. The specific and unique ratios of these key ingredients lend each individual type of beer its unique “craft.” Craft breweries differ from your average beer producer in that they are small, independent companies, noted for their higher quality ingredients and small production levels – each generates less than 6 million barrels per annum. The beers they do create are highly traditional, deriving over fifty percent of their volume from all-malt beer rather than rice or corn. All in all, Lions, Tigers, and Brews was a fantastic and informative event. From laughing at the sea lion show to hiking through the tropics house jungle, the Mood of Living team experienced the perfect combination of business and pleasure.
