Veja is “reinventing sneakers” with a sustainable twist. The sneakers’ canvas is made from organic, agroecological and fair trade cotton. The soles use wild Amazonian rubber, and recycled plastic bottles make up 100% of the mesh. Many of its fabrics are made of recycled material that would otherwise be trashed by the fashion industry: recycled jute, polyester and cotton are some of these materials. Veja has also introduced a line of vegan shoes as an alternative to its leather offerings. These sneakers are instead made of materials such as B-Mesh, biodegradable CWL material from corn waste, synthetic suede and organic cotton. Its spring/summer 2019 collection was overall 40% vegan. The company also partners with Ateliers sans Frontieres, which provides both rehabilitation and permanent jobs for those otherwise excluded from the workforce. The overall end result is a sleek, simple sneaker a wearer can feel good about walking in.
