Everlane

Everlane is an ethical fashion brand based in Los Angeles. It has implemented a transparency policy which breaks down the true cost behind all of its products – from material, to labor, to transport. Founder Michael Preysman noticed discrepancies in retail markups and opted for a direct-to-consumer model, campaigning with his “racial transparency” policies. From materials to labor to transportation, Everlane documents every factory they work with. In the fall of 2018, it made the commitment to eliminate all virgin plastic from its supply chain by 2021 and introduced a line of outerwear, ReNew, made completely from recycled water bottles. The company spends months visiting the best factories around the world and building close relationships with the owners of these factories. Each factory is given a compliance audit, allowing Everlane to evaluate holistic factors, from fair wages, to reasonable hours, to sustainability initiatives. Everlane only partners with factories scoring 90 or above in every area. The brand is self-proclaimed to be “anti-trend” and encourages consumers to wear their pieces every decade.
