Adidas
Headquartered in Germany, Adidas is a global sustainable sports brand, producing over 900 million products worldwide. Despite the company’s size, they are constantly making strides to improve their environmental and social practices. Their Sustainability Roadmap for 2020 outlines tangible goals that aim to minimize the company’s impact on the planet; objectives for the roadmap include reducing water and energy usage and increasing the use of sustainable materials and processes. Adidas adopts a holistic approach to sustainability, taking responsibility for their impacts across their entire supply chain. By 2020, the sports apparel brand aims to develop a global Health Management strategy for their employees. Adidas champions diversity – regardless of gender, nationality, ethnic origin, religion, world view, age, sexual orientation or gender identity. Adidas partners with Parley for the Oceans to create shoes and clothing made from ocean plastic and recycled polyester. Parley for the Oceans upcycles marine plastic waste found on remote islands in coastal communities. Adidas plans to manufacture all its shoes and clothing from recycled polyester by 2024.
The FUTURECRAFT.LOOP running shoe will be the first by Adidas to be 100% recyclable. Instead of throwing away running shoes after they have been worn out, Adidas encourages consumers to bring the shoe back to them. Adidas has already launched Adidas Infinite Play in the United Kingdom to test out the initiative. The commercial release of FUTURECRAFT.LOOP is expected in Spring Summer 2021. Click here to read more about Adidas’ sustainability approach.
