El Cosmico – Unique Hotel and Campground in Texas

USA

Mood of Living        February 2, 2016

Liz Lambert’s El Cosmico in Marfa, Texas, is a unique hotel and campgound that focuses on nature and tranquility.

El Cosmico Nomadic Campground in Marfa, Texas sits beneath vibrant blue skies on twenty-one acres of land. Owner Liz Lambert has created a unique hotel and campground that focuses on nature and tranquility. This vibrant new destination hosts guests in 10 trailers, 8 tents, and one yurt scattered around the premises.

Lambert envisioned El Cosmico as a communal oasis, cultivating artistic engagement and attracting the adventurous. She collaborated with the architecture firm Lake/Flato and a creative team of artists and builders to turn the artistic campground into a reality.

Every restored vintage trailer has its own individual style and decor, from bold colors and 60s styling to simplified white interiors and wood details. Although the trailers were constructed by Vagabond, Spartan, Branstrator and Kozy Coach in the mid-20th Century, they still retain their charm. Every unit contains marine varnished birch and unique finishings to establish a true home-away-from-home feel. Complete with kitchens, bedrooms and sitting areas, El Cosmico’s trailers will alter your perception of “trailer living.”

For those seeking a more rustic experience, El Cosmico offers campsite accommodations with their safari and scout tents, Sioux-style tepees and yurts. No matter where you choose to stay, all guests have access to the communal outdoor kitchen and bath house. In addition, there are other group spaces for relaxation. The dining area and community lounge are perfect for interaction and conversation, while the hammock grove and reading room are calming areas for anyone in search of peace and quiet. For any last-minute tools, books, apparel, or decor, head to El Cosmico Provision Company. This mercantile outpost is outfitted with all of the comforts and amenities needed to ensure a comfortable stay.

Guests can also explore beyond the nomadic campground as El Cosmico is within walking distance to local landmarks such as the Chinati Foundation as well as to Marfa’s galleries and shops. Local restaurants and a creative art scene provide ample opportunity for exploration. In addition, El Cosmico itself hosts multiple events throughout the year. Recently they hosted the site for the Trans-Pecos Festival of Music + Love. The three-day event combined music, workshops and art installations in one place for visitors to experience and enjoy.

As a cultural meeting place in the form of a hotel and campground, El Cosmico is the perfect place to stay – whether overnight during a road trip or as an extended trip of its own. The flux of events and exposure to new ideas ensures that there is always something new to discover.
