LODI RULES

LODI Rules Certified Sustainable Logo

is California’s original sustainable viticulture program. Its rigorous certification program only awards wine products that are composed of a minimum of 85% certified sustainable grapes.

This certification program also boasts a personal, curated guidebook called the “Standards” that details over 150 sustainable practices a farm or vineyard can engage in. These were developed by Lodi winegrape growers, viticulture professionals and scientists. The Standards are organized into six Chapters: (1) Business Management, (2) Human Resources Management, (3) Ecosystem Management, (4) Soil Management, (5) Water Management and (6) Pest Management. Each standard must be measurable, economically feasible, based in science and address sustainability. Lodi also has a pesticide risk model, entitled PEAS 2.0, which quantifies the total environmental and human impact of plant protectants and is annually applied to Lodi certified vineyards.

The LODI Rules are known to be one of the most rigorously vetted and well-respected sustainability programs in the viticulture industry, and all the standards the system advocates for are peer-reviewed and revised by trustworthy scientists, academic scholars and environmental organizations. LODI Rules promotes and uplifts wineries and vineyards that take extra responsibility to care for their environment and for their workers.
