Happy February! The mood of the month is Motivation.
This might not be the mood one instinctively thinks of for February. We think of love around Valentine’s Day, or may feel more reflexive as the winter keeps us spending time indoors. February can be the most challenging month of the year…the winter drags on a little too long, the promise of the new year and resolutions may not have come to fruition. It can be a stumbling block as we await the spring. However, this is a short month in which we can be proactive. To find the energy to stay positive, stay motivated, pursue our dreams, and overcome challenges. This might be easier to do when the days are longer, warmer, full of birds and buds. But they are on the horizon, and the sooner you find motivation, the more prepared you will be when they do come.
When I first set out to create Mood of Living, I was motivated to create a digital platform to share positive and inspiring stories, thoughts, and beautiful products. I started writing a list of ideas that I wanted Mood of Living to embody. I never shared them as a thought they might come off as corny. But with time, and as Mood of Living grows, I realize that these very words that motivated me then continue to resonate through our content and community. They are still at the heart of Mood of Living’s core mission, relevant to today.

We gravitate towards things every month that delight our senses. This month, we should seek things that motivate us and which we can rest in. February means we can continue to relish winter comforts in our home and food. Warm winter vegetables baked into this skillet lasagna keep healthy resolutions on track and offer solace in even the harshest cold. The language of love is all around as February 14th approaches. Bake some loving treats like this quick 30-minute red velvet cake or try a new venture with Tutti Dolci’s home-made chocolates.
We have the opportunity to spend more time outdoors as the days start to open up and blossoms of spring mix with flurries of snow. In the home, create a sanctuary of warmth and relaxation, an ideal base from which to enact on our motivation and plans for the year and to take stock.
In a short but busy month there is opportunity to gather with friends for the Superbowl on the 5th and loved ones for Valentine’s Day (14th). Celebrate in style at Mardi Gras on the 28th, reach out to your community on Random Acts of Kindness Day (and everyday!) on the 17th and take time to reflect and learn through Black History Month.
I wish you all a happy, inspiring, and motivated February!
