HAUTE VALEUR ENVIRONNEMENTALE
was created in 2001 by the French Ministry of Agriculture. This French certification specializes in certifying sustainable spirits and wines, incentivizing vineyards and farms to increase their biodiversity, improve their water management, manage their fertilizer inputs, and decrease the potential overall negative environmental impacts of their agricultural practices. The HVE certification boasts a three-tiered certification system, in which vineyards and businesses can only be awarded the label of “High Environmental Value” once they have passed the third and most strict round of assessments. With the goal of confronting climate change and reducing the environmental footprints of modern agriculture, HVE continues certifying and motivating vineyards and farms to become more sustainable and eco-friendly.
