Welcome to one of the many portfolios we will be featuring in this Journal. Our first contributor, Stockton Johnson, is a fashion photographer for Chinese Vogue. The artist splits his time between New York and Shanghai.
This particular series of photos are from his first journey to China in 2004. Looking for travel and adventure, he visited one of the ancient water towns Zhouzuang, located only a couple of hours outside of Shanghai.
On his trip, Stockton was inspired by how the locals still use waterways for fishing and food transportation like they did in ancient times. Although the town has become quite touristy in recent years, he still finds it a beautiful juxtaposition to mega cities such as Shanghai. Considering that China is currently the world’s fastest growing economy, the tradition of using waterway transportation is something that still fascinates him.
Enjoy the series!
