The Flushing Meadows

Germany

Mood of Living  /  Feb 19, 2016

The Flushing Meadows Hotel lies on top of an unsuspecting industrial building in the lively Glockenbach neighborhood of Munich, Germany. This location is a true home away from home, complete with 16 unique rooms designed by different creative professionals, each aiming to deviate from the mundane feeling of conventional hotels.

Flushing Meadows believes that one size doesn’t fit all when it comes to hotels and travelers. Therefore, it strives to make sure that each guest has a distinct experience. Created by a trio of seasoned gastronomy professionals and hotel enthusiasts – Sascha Arnold, Niels Jäger and Steffen Werner – The Flushing Meadows promises an unparalleled stay.

All 16 rooms in the hotel are designed by a slew of creative professionals. In designing each room, they used their personal relationship with Munich as inspiration. Each is individualized according to the designer–from the French toile wallpaper in a loft designed by actress Birgit Minichmayr, to the custom-made wooden furniture designed by Folk Magazine’s Cathal McAteer.

The Flushing Meadows puts a strong focus on partnerships with local businesses. They believe that “it is more interesting to be confronted with local heroes [than with] global players.” Free bike rentals are provided by local bike makers, Stilrad, and coffee is sourced from a local company, Dallmayr.

In addition, the rooms are stocked with renowned, Munich-based water from Aqua Monaco. The lobby houses Munich’s first organic smoothie shop, Super Danke, which offers fresh pressed juices as a healthy refreshment. The bar also serves breakfast, snacks and other aperitifs throughout the day.

The Flushing Meadows Hotel is a place for those who want to get away from the stereotypical hotel environment and enjoy a carefully curated experience.
