DNGB

The DGNB System Logo

is a system that was established by the German Sustainable Building Council (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen) in 2009, and since then has been recognized as a Global Benchmark for Sustainability. Buildings may be certified while completing other processes, as DGNB assists companies from the initial concept to completion. A DGNB auditor is assigned to support contractors and supervise the building process. The DNGB System primarily focuses on a building’s life cycle assessment, holistic approach and performance orientation from an ecological, economical and socio-cultural standpoint. DNGB oversight is unique in its commitment to the entire life-cycle of a building: Planning, Construction, Operations, Renovation and Dismantling. Certifications are offered throughout all of these processes if buildings meet DNGB standards. Buildings may earn a DGNB certification in platinum, gold or silver. Existing buildings may also obtain a bronze certificate for sustainable operations.
