CLIMATE NEUTRAL
certifications denote that a company is actively holding itself accountable for its carbon emissions. To become Climate Neutral certified, a business not only has to be extremely transparent by measuring its own greenhouse gas emissions (from the entire production process), but also has to commit to offsetting all these measured emissions.
Â
The certification program consists of three essential steps. Step one requires businesses to measure their emissions and assess the carbon impacts of their goods and services. Next, businesses must reduce value chain carbon emissions, with annual documentation of their progression towards reducing emissions. Climate Neutral offers structured recommendations, assisting businesses decide where and how to reduce emissions. Lastly, businesses must compensate for all of the previous year’s emissions by purchasing eligible verified carbon clean energy credits. To do this, Climate Neutral encourages businesses to invest in carbon reduction and removal projects, as well as reforestation projects. For a company to obtain this stamp of approval, they also must demonstrate concrete evidence of future sustainable plans and initiatives that they are in the process of implementing. The organization prides itself on making climate friendly shopping easier and more accessible.
