INTERNATIONAL WOOL TEXTILE ORGANIZATION
is the global authority for setting standards in the wool textile industry. IWTO promotes the use of wool, as opposed to other materials that are less sustainable. As sheep are part of the natural carbon cycle — consuming carbon from plants and converting it to wool — using sheep’s wool helps reduce carbon emissions. Furthermore, the durability of wool products gives them a long lifespan. And once wool products do reach the end of their lifespan, they are biodegradable and decompose back into the earth.
From harvesting wool at farms to selling wool-based products at a retail level, the IWTO takes care to represent all stages of the wool textile pipeline in 22 countries. IWTO maintains the global standards for wool testing and arbitration when evaluating companies and products. IWTO extensively examines animal welfare, recycling, education, and assess research in the wool industry. IWTO also has a Traceability System, allowing consumers to trace where their wool products are sourced from.
