Happy New Year!
Though the issues we faced in 2016 might still be present, we enter the new year with hope for a fresh start. The fatigue from the end of the year has been replaced with promise and an optimistic energy.
Our mood this month is Awareness. We need to be aware of where we last were and where we hope to go. We start our year with new resolutions…to get fit, eat healthier, get out of debt, find a meaningful job, spend more time with family and friends, be lest stressed, volunteer…. the resolutions themselves can be daunting.
I encourage you to take each day in January one day at a time. Take small steps in pursuit of your goals: take a walk, meditate 15 minutes a day, add one healthier thing to your diet, read something inspirational once a day –even if it’s just a paragraph, seek some sort of inspirational guidance for spiritual awareness. Most importantly, try to be optimistic, mindful, and self-compassionate. Be aware of the world around you: how it influences you, and how you can impact it in a positive way.
Every season inspires different feelings, and in January we aim for awareness of the senses. This month we celebrated the new year with the sound and sight of fireworks. We enjoy the smell of hearty soups and stews, delight in the freshness of citrus, warm our taste buds with hot tea and coffee, feel cozy under down comforters and warm sweaters, and listen to the sound of rain and falling snowflakes. Warm up with a bowl of Ina Garten’s winter minestrone & garlic bruschetta and get a head start on your resolutions with Half Baked Harvest’s holiday detox green smoothie.
Wishing you a happy, healthy, and prosperous new year ahead!
