November Mood of the Month: Cheerful
Welcome November, welcome the season of giving thanks, welcome Cheerful!
The energy of the holidays often creates anxiety as we add more things to our already full plates. And with a tumultuous presidential election season coming to a close this month, November has put us all ill at ease. This is all the more reason to stay centered on the positive and to be grateful for the meaningful things in life. I encourage you to stay focused on what matters most– the chance to reunite and celebrate with friends and family. Make the time for fun and add joy to your lives this holiday season, delighting in the cheerful moments ahead!
Now that we are officially mid-season, all that we love about fall is in full swing: the leaves are bright, the sweaters are out of our closets, and the air is brisk. Turn on some classical music or smooth jazz and trade in your crisp white wines for deep reds. Perhaps most importantly, it’s time to relish the delicious fall foods that are rich in color and high in health benefits! This is the season of winter squash, beets, apples, pears, cauliflower, and sweet potatoes. By taking advantage of your local farmers markets and preparing ahead, you’ll have a fridge full of ready-made dishes to come home to in no time. Brighten up a gloomy fall day with Half Baked Harvest’s butternut squash goat cheese pasta or creamy Thai carrot sweet potato soup. And don’t forget dessert: Ina Garten’s recipe for French apple tart is a must-try!
On another food-related note, the month begins with Sandwich Day on November 3rd. Take a chance and try something new; there are limitless options to what you can put between two slices of bread. The first Saturday in November is Book Lovers day, encouraging you to disconnect from digital devices and read a good book to re-charge the spirit. On November 11th, take the time to thank those who have served and continue to serve our country for Veterans Day. And, of course, there’s my favorite national holiday: Thanksgiving! This is the one holiday not dictated by religion that unites our country and urges us to bond with family and friends. With so much to celebrate this month, you have plenty of opportunities to be cheerful.
Happy November!
